Rare patriotic quilt in the pattern called "Star Spangled banner". Also sometimes called "Star & Feather", the quilt was made by Rachel Rich McLaughlin in Noble County, Ohio, circa 1876, in the era of our Nation's centennial of independence from Great Britain. Rachel was the sister of Nancy McLaughlin Miller, whose matching quilt is on the cover of "Ohio Quilts: A Living Tradition" (Canton Art Institute, 1981). Absolutely exceptional quilting compliments this riveting design. |
