 | |
                            | This tremendous bell crown "tar bucket" American militia cap was found in a home in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Although a portion of the eagle is absent, the overall condition is unusually exceptional. This style of hat was in use during the 1821-1832 period. A portion of the polished cloth lining remains, as well as remnants of the owner's initials. The arched drop in the back is unusual and adds a more dramatic presentation to the overall form. The metallic braids and tassels are beautiful, as-is the scaled band. The black finish has great surface for a collector of American folk art. |
