This important derivative of the De l'Isle 1718 map depicts exploratory routes of De Soto, Moscoso, La Salle, Tonti & Denis, & settlements up to 1717. The delineation of the Mississippi River is amazingly correct. In addition to information found on the De l'Isle map this map includes Lake Superior & the country northwest, southern Florida & Bahamas. There are other interesting additions, such as a vignette in the valley between the Ohio & Chaouanons (Cumberland) depicting a buffalo hunt by Illinois Indians. Chicagou is also marked. Chemin des Voyageurs west of the Mississippi continues from Father Louis Hennepin�s route in 1680 westward to Aiauoex (Iowa). Mission de los Teijas is also clearly noted as well as the location of LaSalle's settlement off the Gulf Coast  (today's Matagorda Bay in Texas) and his death nearby. The insets of Niagara Falls and the buffalo are after drawings by Father Hennepin. A highly desirable map that is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
