48 STARS, 1912-1945 ERA, WOOL BUNTING WITH COTTON STARS, ARIZONA STATEHOOD

Description:
48 STARS, 1912-1945 ERA, WOOL BUNTING WITH COTTON STARS, ARIZONA STATEHOOD:

48 star American National flag. The 47th and 48th states, New Mexico and Arizona, entered the Union in 1912. The 48 star flag became official on July 4th of that year and remained so until the addition of Alaska in 1959. Based upon fabrics and construction, this flag probably dates to the period between 1912 and WWII (1941-45).

The canton and stripes of the flag are made of wool bunting that has been pieced by machine with a lineal stitch. The stars are made of cotton and double-appliqued with a zigzag machine stitch. There is a heavy cotton sleeve with two brass grommets for hoisting.

Mounting: The flag has not yet been mounted.

Condition: There is minor mothing, accompanied by minor foxing and staining, but this is an excellent state of preservation and there are no serious condition issues.
