This very RARE pair of 19th C. paint decorated Fire House Windsor youth chairs, both of identical style and decoration, were most likely a special order upon the birth of a child. Chairs of this quality would have been extravagant and were most likely that of a wealthy family. The first is a youth chair with nicely turned spindles, legs, and stretcher base. The second is an identically styled highchair. Both have overall paint-decorated surfaces of black over a red base coat with gilt highlights. The backrests are decorated with a wonderful American three-masted sailing vessel flying the American flag. A very charming and rare pair of child's chairs in wonderful condition for their age. |
