13 STAR RIBBON, WOVEN SILK, SCARCE LARGE SIZE, 1866-1910:
Description: |
13 star American national flag ribbon made of woven silk and of the type used in military medals, political and fraternal items in the 1866-1910 period. They were also sometimes simply worn on a lapel with a stick pin. This particular example is in a larger size than they normally appear.
Mounting: The veneered mahogany molding dates to the period between 1830 and 1860. The ribbon has been hand-stitched to 100% cotton rag mat. Spacers keep the textile away from the glass, which is U.V. protective. |
