M-11799:  (Image : 12 1/4 x 19 5/8’’) “HISTORICAL MAP  of NANTUCKET, Surveyed and Drawn by The Rev. F. C. EWER,  D.D. 1869.” Boston: Lee and Shepard, c. 1882. Lithographed map with later hand color. With original folds, as issued, and in excellent condition!  

This striking map of Nantucket Island was issued in The Island of Nantucket... by Edward K. Godfrey.  "The maps contained in the work were made expressly for it...that of the island copied from Ref. Dr. F. C. Ewer's historical map with his kind permission" (Preface).  Historical data is provided from 1602 through 1865 at the top of the map.  Topographical features are shown and roads, pastures, ponds, swamps,  "Site of the first Town" and islands are located.  A very detailed view of the island!
