Terracotta Camel (117 x 106 mm - 4 1/2 x 4 3/16 inches) A molded red pottery camel having a single opening at the hump. The whimsical figure is embellished with geometric saddle blanket with straps, reins and harness. Maltese crosses are shown on the saddle bags. There is a small pour hole opening in the mouth, and the figure was possibly used as an oil container. An uncommon and attractive form!
Provenance: ex Leslie Margulis collection, acquired Arte Primitivo Gallery, NYC in 1999. |
