PA-3205: SILVER COIN – DRACHM - Alexander the Great

ANCIENT GREECE – MACEDONIA c. 336 - 323 BC. In a 14K gold Custom Pendant Mount

An ancient silver coin (drachm) in extremely fine condition, from the reign of Alexander the Great of Macedonia.

Obverse: Head of Heracles wearing a lion-skin helmet, right. Reverse: Zeus seated on a throne.

Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was King of Macedon, a state in northern ancient Greece. Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander was tutored by Aristotle until the age of 16. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from the Ionian Sea to the Himalayas. He was undefeated in battle and is considered one of history's most successful commanders.

Provenance: ex Syracuse estate collection. Pendant hand-crafted in 14k gold (marked) by Aber & Levine, jewelers of Kedumim, Israel (Diameter without loop 30 mm, total weight 8.85 gm.)
