   Antique Indian Agra rug

Agra carpets are perhaps the most elegant variety produced in 19th century India. This small but exceptional Agra rug is colored with the characteristic genre defining tones of gold, umber, and ox-blood. Drawing is refined and based on classical Persian design of the 17th century with a full array of cloud-band ornament, arabesque vine-scroll, as well as foliage and plumes arranged around a very Mughal-esque lattice in the field. Despite its smaller size, this piece maintains the full splendor associated with larger Agra carpets.
