HORSE HEAD TRADE SIGN, LAST QUARTER 19TH CENTURY:

Description:
An exceptional, painted American trade sign made from carved wood in the full-bodied form of a race horses head.  Wonderful movement, tremendous folk character, and great early paint surface.  Found in SanFrancisco, this carving probably marked a blacksmiths or harness shop.

Photos can unfortunately do not do proper justice to its overwhelming presence in person.  Made circa 1880-90.

Mounting: The previous owner had a taxidermist apply a wall mount that allows for easy hanging.
