China trade brass bound leather covered camphor wood trunk having a double row of brass tack heads within a brass edge. The top of the lid decorated with brass tacks forming a central rectangle with quarter round cut corners, and the front decorated with a swag of brass tacks. Camphor wood was favored by 19th century military officers as it discouraged insects protecting their woolen uniforms. These trunks now make excellent coffee tables as well as provide storage.
