Description: |
|
Exceptionally large early 19th century French petrin (dough box) from near Lyon. Of walnut construction with pine secondary wood, the loose lid top sits on slanted sides and dovetailed box which is supported by the base with scalloped apron, and one large over three smaller drawers. Dough was kneaded on the top and placed inside the box to rise, where it would be protected from drafts and temperature shifts. |
