IM-9220: (124 x 90mm) Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 16  lines of text, ruled in red, written in Latin with dark brown ink & red rubrics in fine gothic script on animal vellum. One illuminated four-line initial in blue with delicate white penwork having an internal floral motif in burnished gold, green, blue, orange and white, and resting on a red ground with white penwork surrounded by a burnished gold border; three illuminated two-line initials in burnished gold on red and blue ground with delicate white penwork; ten illuminated one-line initials alternating in deep blue with delicate red penwork and burnished gold with delicate blue penwork; three-quarter illuminated bar border surrounding the text in burnished gold, then surrounded by an elaborate floral border with burnished gold bezants and colors of red, blue, green, orange and blue.

Flanders, c. 1450 – produced to follow the English rites, for the English market.

The four-line illuminated “D” opens the Hours of the Virgin – Hour of Terce; “Deus...” (Incline unto my aid, O God...). The two-line illuminated “M” begins the hymn: “Memento Salutis...” (Remember O Creator Lord, that in the Virgin's sacred womb Thou wast conceived, and of her flesh didst our mortality assume...).  The two-line illuminated “A” begins Psalm119 (King James 120) complete: “Ad Dominum...” (In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me...).  The two-line illuminated “L” opens Psalm 120 (KJ 121): “Levavi...” I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains...).
