IM-9434: (124 x 90mm) Original leaf from a medieval manuscript Book of Hours. 16 lines of text, ruled in red, written in Latin with dark brown ink & red rubrics in fine gothic script on animal vellum. One illuminated four-line initial in blue with delicate white penwork having an internal floral motif in burnished gold, green, blue, orange and white, and resting on a red ground with white penwork surrounded by a burnished gold border; one illuminated two-line initial in burnished gold on red and blue ground with delicate white penwork; eleven illuminated one-line initials alternating in deep blue with delicate red penwork and burnished gold with delicate blue penwork; three-quarter illuminated bar border surrounding the text in burnished gold, then surrounded by an elaborate floral border with burnished gold bezants and colors of red, blue, green, orange and blue.

The four-line illuminated “D” begins Psalm 114 (King James 115) complete; “Dilexi...” (I have loved, because the Lord will hear the voice of my prayer. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me: and in my days I will call upon him...I will please the Lord in the land of the living). The two-line illuminated “A” begins Psalm119 (King James 120) 1-3: “Ad Dominum...” (In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me...). |
