The Antiques Council, Inc., founded in 1990, is a not-for-profit organization created by professional antiques dealers. The objective of the group is ultimately to improve the confidence of the public in antiques and their dealers through education, service, and example. The Council actively:

  • provides management services to charities that hold high-quality antiques shows as fund raisers;
  • offers the buying public education about antiques; and
  • sets the highest possible standards for its members and the shows it manages.

THE ANTIQUES COUNCIL AND ITS STANDARDS

The Antiques Council is a professional association of dealers in antiques and art that mandates, and rigorously enforces, the highest ethical and professional standards. Members are selected by their peers for the quality of their merchandise, their expertise, and their integrity. Membership is by invitation only, and all members must be re-elected annually.

Antiques Council members are experts in their fields. They are a source of good advice as well as good antiques. They take pride in their reputations and in their professionalism, and are governed by strict ethical standards in all aspects of their relations with the public and with their fellow dealers.

The Antiques Council is committed to public education in antiques and art.

The Antiques Council manages high quality antiques shows at which all dealers are carefully selected and all antiques are fully guaranteed.

The Antiques Council requires its members to:

  • Provide a written description of every antique they sell, including details of age, origin and condition.
  • Guarantee every item to be as described.
  • Make a full refund if the description proves to be in error, provided that the antique is in the condition in which it was sold.

In the unlikely event of a dispute, the complainant may appeal to the Antique Council's free arbitration service instead of going to litigation. The Board of Directors of the Antiques Council will convene a panel of experts who will provide a rapid and independent judgment.

You may buy from, or sell to, a member of the Antiques Council
with complete confidence and in complete confidence!
