Oil on Board
Signed Upper Left
Exhibited: New Directions in American Painting, Carnegie Institute, 1941
Framed by Richard Tobey & Son
The daughter of Ivan Olinsky, Tosca was born in Italy and studied first with her father and subsequently at the National Academy of Design and Art Students League in New York. Elected to early membership of both the National Academy of Design and the American National Academy, she exhibited widely and with success throughout the United States, winning a variety of prestigious awards and prizes. This elegant still-life, exhibited at the Carnegie Institute, was painted when Olinsky was in her early thirties and shows both the artist’s monumentality of conception and her intuitive sense of texture.
