Rare Pair of Alfred Corneau Urns

Description:

A striking and rare pair of late 19th century French cast iron urns, the semi-lobed bodies decorated with a molded frieze of well detailed bunches of grapes, grapevine and leaves with the grape leaf motif repeated in the base of the handles, the handles themselves beautifully formed as branches, all above a rising circular foot. The removable stepped lids, also known as winter covers, are decorated with raised medallions and topped by an openwork knob.
Signed: Corneau, Alfred, Charleville.
