Antique lithographed board games pair up fantastically with collections of wooden, paint-decorated game boards. This one is the game of Turn-Over. Dated 1898 in the lowermost, right-hand, yellow space, this colorful and graphic example shows illustrations of children tumbling down a hill in a schoolyard, mimicked in opposing corners by green bullfrogs that are rolling down a bank into a pond in similar fashion. A repeating border of yellow-eyed, white daisies decorated the outer edge. Note the large crescent moon above the frogs, which seems out-of-place in the daytime sky.
Mounting: The board has been carefully recessed into 100% cotton rag mat board, lined with 100% cotton, black in color, which has been washed and treated to reduce and set the dye. The frame is simple and black in color. The front is u.v. protective Plexiglas. |
