RED, WHITE, AND BLUE PARCHEESI GAME BOARD, CA 1920-WWII:
Description: |
This patriotic Parcheesi game board was made sometime between 1910 and WWII. Scratched into its surface with a pencil is a WWII date of December 1943. While it isnt completely out of the realm of possibility that the board was made at this time, it is more likely that someone was simply playing it on that date and recorded it, or that it was given as a gift at that time. Probably the former is true, as it would have been unlikely for the maker of the board to have made this mark. The polychrome-painted surface is more akin to game boards made during the 19th century than those made during the 20th, but the laminate wood construction suggests that it is slightly later. Id say the most likely date bracket is 1910 1930.
Strong graphics and color with a later date than some means that this is a great board for a starting collector, or for gift-giving, or for filling a wall with colorful boards when you have to keep an eye on your monetary outlay. |
