Late 19th French garden table with a decorative scrolled base and faded blue/gray top. Hollow wrought iron tube furniture was created in France in the mid-19th century for seating to address the expanding needs of the park system which needed sturdy but light weight and easily movable and attractive chairs that could be arranged for concerts and lectures and well as used for general park seating. The form quickly became popular in private homes and gardens and was adapted to tables and benches. |
