Although many Victorian Majolica pieces are found to be interesting, charming, whimsical and decorative, few have a mechanized structure. This revolving tiered Majolica oyster server was designed and produced in 1856 by the Herbert Minton factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
The attached top four tiers are secured via a brass spindle mechanism to the fixed base via cork cushions to protect the delicate earthenware body while providing the revolving function so perfectly. The only thing that stands between this piece and its different use 365 days a year is your imagination. This is truly a remarkable piece of Victorian Majolica and would be a star in any collection.
