A common Sunday outing for the poor of Lower Manhattan
during the depression was going to get a breath of fresh air on one of the
piers on the Hudson River. Soyer, drawing
materials in hand, often strolled over to the Hudson,
just a few blocks from his apartment in Greenwich Village.
