An outstanding pair of burr yew wood inlaid tables consisting of a baize lined game table and a mahogany lined table probably for tea service. The configuration of the tops are remarkable and possibly unique with serpentine shaped facades and "Axe" shaped corners with corresponding serpentine sides. Both tables are veneered in yew wood throughout with tulipwood crossbanding and intricate inlays depicting urns, paterae, bellflower garlands and rosettes. The legs are square tapered and end with brass casters. English, circa 1770.
Prov. "Ditchley", the Virginia Estate of Alfred I and Jessie Ball du Pont. |
