| This well executed portrait, done by Calvin Balis (1817-1863), is oil on wood panel. It is the portrait of a very attractive and distinguished set of twin brothers from Oxford, New York. The detail in this painting is remarkable, not to mention the incredible paint decorated frame surrounding it. On the back of the wood panel you can faintly see (with magnification) writing in graphite that simply says, "Brothers from Oxford, NY". Ca. 1840. Measuring 12" w by 14" t overall. In excellent condition with minor crazing in the paint surface. |
