This leaf begins the Hours of the Virgin – Hour of Vespers. The three-line illuminated “D” begins: “Deus…” (Incline unto my aid O God. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen). The two-line illuminated “D” begins Psalm 109 (King James 110) 1-4: “Dixit Dominus…” (The Lord said to my Lord: Sit thou at my right hand: Until I make thy enemies thy footstool. The Lord will send forth the scepter of thy power out of Sion: rule thou in the midst of thy enemies. With thee is the principality in the day of thy strength…). |
