Backgrounds done in watercolor in paper of the British ship "HMS Shannon" and "USS Chesapeake" who engaged in in a famous 1813 naval engagement off Boston during the War of 1812, during which the Chesapeake's Captain Lawrence was mortally wounded. As he was carried below, he issued a command to his crew which became naval legend" "Don't give up the ship; fight to the last man." |
