|
| Having central cartouche with port side ship portrait, flanked by national flags, surmounted with crown and banner reading "Fred Young Sept. 1885"
Surrounded by five smaller cartouches, each with a port side profile of a ship. Sailors' woolworks were produced from the 1840's until the early 20th century, their decline coinciding with the First World War. Woolwork pictures rarely display the name of the ship or the artist responsible. The present example is a rare exception, being signed and dated by the maker, Fred Young.
