   CHIPPENDALE WALNUT OVAL DROP LEAF BREAKFAST TABLE Salem, Massachusetts, circa 1765.


 

Description:
Having ogee-serpentine skirt on the ends, and shaped knee-returns tapering to round and terminating in ball-and-claw feet. When the gate-legs are open, the table-top is almost circular. Beautiful warm patina. Height: 27” Width: 12¾” closed, 35½”, open Depth: 36½” Provenance: Ginsburg & Levy, Inc., NY., sold 1942 to Vincent Dyckman Andrus, former curator of the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Descended in the family until present.
