LATE CIVIL WAR BROADSIDE WITH PORTRAITS OF WASHINGTON, LINCOLN, ANDREW JOHNSON, AND 6 CIVIL WAR GENERALS & ADMIRALS

Description:
A bold and extraordinary printed broadside, made to memorialize and commemorate a selection of those men who led the fight to end slavery and keep the Union together. Probably made after the death of Lincoln, which would explain the unusual amount of black in this monochrome engraving. Definitely made near the end of the war. Note the obvious absence of McClellan, who not only mishandled the war, but also ran against Lincoln in the 1864 election. Also note the inclusion of George Washington, both to illustrate a comparison between the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and to stress the importance of the task at hand.

Mounting: The broadside has been mounted in an archival manner to 100% cotton rag mat and placed in a black-painted and distressed, contemporary Italian molding. Spacers keep the parchment away from the glass, which is u.v. protective.
