EXCEPTIONAL, LARGE SCALE, MID-19th CENTURY STILL LIFE PAINTING, WITH BEAUTIFUL, SATURATED COLORS:

Description:
This bold and dynamic, mid-19th century still life painting of fruit rings in at several firm notches above most other works of its kind, due to the interesting, lateral shape of the central image and associated shapes, the Robin's egg blue and chrome yellow fringed mat, and the heavily saturated colors used throughout in its palette on a strong, ochre-sienna ground. This certainly would explain why it was formerly counted among the items in the collection of folk and outsider art dealer Frank Maresca, co-author of the landmark text "American Vernacular". The relatively large scale of the painting adds greatly to its overall impact, which can easily command not only a wall, but an entire room.

The painting was formerly in the collection of Darwin Uffer, son of collector Francis Schinn and nephew of the famous architect, Everette Schinn. Darwin was employed by Ricco-Maresa and, in Franks own words, had a great eye.
