This early 18th century map of Asia depicts continent with countries named and in contrasting outline color. Topographical features (known and supposed) are shown in considerable detail with many towns, villages, water routes and deserts identified. The beautifully engraved cartouche embellishes the title and depicts natives, wildlife, and plant-life indigenous to the continent. In the lower left is an inset of the North Coast of Asia “To avoid too great a Contraction of the Scale...’’ The “Land of Iess” and “Company’s land” are shown with the note “The Land and Seas between Japon Corea and Iesso are hitherto undiscovered and it is not known whether to be a part of the Continent or not”
