M-11297: (Image: 14 ½ x 22’’) “NATIONAL FLAGS”  New York:  J. H. Colton, c. 1863.  Original hand-colored chart with exceptionally bright hand-coloring. 

This graphic and very colorful chart depicts various national flags - including the “Signals for Pilots”.  Not only is the chart attractive, but it provides useful identification of numerous emblems of the 19^th century which are obsolete today. Of particular interest is the notation “Confederate States of Nth. America (so styled)”.
