M-57: (Image: 19 ¾ x 28 ½’’) “SPAIN and PORTUGAL, divided into their respective KINGDOMS and PROVINCES.” London: William Faden, c. 1796. Very fine engraved map with original hand-coloring.
This handsome historical map depicts 18th century Spain and Portugal in remarkable detail! Topographical features are shown, and rivers, mountains, cities, towns, and major roads identified. The beautifully engraved title cartouche displays plants and animals indigenous to the region. This exceptionally fine map is typical of those published by Faden - an English map engraver and publisher who was noted for producing “remarkably fine maps” (Tooley: Maps and Map-Makers, p. 56). |
