Description:

M-10893: (Image: 11 7/8 x 17 ˝ ’’) “DE GELEGENTHEYD VAN ‘T PARADYS EN ‘T LANDT CANAAN…” Rotterdam:  Hendrik and Jacob Keur, c. 1748. From a Dutch Bible. Engraved map with later hand-coloring. Very strong, clear engraving. Some separation at folds archivally rejoined.

This map depicts the Holy Land from Egypt to the Land of Nod, noting the biblical towns, mountain ranges & river systems as referenced in the Book of Genesis. To the right of the Tower of Babel is “Paradys” with scenes of Adam and Eve in Paradise and, further right, being banished from Eden (The four colorful corner vignettes depict these scenes in greater detail). The large lower center vignette shows Noah’s Ark during the flood. On the sea is depicted the legend of Jonah and the whale.
